What sits in your service bay

One cabinet, plumbed into the fresh water inlet. Everything you hook up to passes through it before any of it reaches the coach.

The unit

Mounted, not carried.

It lives in the service bay and it stays there. Nothing comes out on arrival and nothing gets packed down before you pull away. The rig tows it because it is part of the rig.

No two builds come out identical. Each one is configured around the bay it is going into, which is why a quote starts with your coach instead of a catalog number.

Three stages

How the treatment stages work together.

Softening reduces hardness in the connected onboard supply, and filtration addresses the substances covered by the selected media. The DI stage is used for the exterior final rinse. The controls and plumbing keep each treatment available for its intended job.

Softening exchanges calcium and magnesium for sodium ions. It does not lower total dissolved solids or guarantee longer DI resin life. How much rinse water a resin fill treats depends on the dissolved ions entering it and the volume used.

On the gauge

Two lines, one screen.

A dual TDS meter sits on the panel. One probe reads the water arriving from the hookup. The other reads the water leaving for the hose.

On the rig we filmed, the arriving side held near 429 ppm. The output display dropped below 5 ppm near the end of the clip.

That is one rig on one hookup, and it is worth saying so plainly. Your arriving number is whatever the park hands you that day. That reading is a demonstration, not a guaranteed outlet value. A TDS meter estimates dissolved solids from conductivity; use a separate hardness test to check the softener. Neither reading establishes drinking-water safety.

What changes

Two sets of consequences.

Inside the coach, softer water helps soap lather and reduces the hardness that contributes to scale on heating surfaces and fixtures. Routine water-heater and plumbing maintenance still matters.

Outside, use the DI water for a final rinse after washing and removing the soap. Check the rinse-water TDS and follow the service instructions so exhausted resin does not leave new mineral spots.

Treated rinse water helps prevent new deposits. It does not repair existing etching. The softener needs regeneration, and the filter and DI resin need service. Watch the regeneration demonstration or explore the RV water softener system.
